An Aurora, CO man was charged with exploiting his role as a tow truck driver to orchestrate the theft of numerous vehicles, subsequently selling them to salvage yards for dismantling.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office began investigating last year when a detective investigated a report of a stolen vehicle. This inquiry led the detective to suspect a connection with multiple thefts linked to Eagle Wing Towing.

Focusing on a particular employee, 33-year-old Brian Chacon, detectives grew increasingly suspicious of his activities. It was revealed that instead of taking the towed vehicles to Eagle Wing Towing’s designated impound lot, Chacon, alongside the company, diverted up to 81 vehicles to various salvage yards throughout the Denver area.

According to the sheriff’s office, 48 of these 81 vehicles were verified as stolen, four were legally owned by Eagle Wing Towing, and 29 remain undetermined due to difficulties in tracing their latest legitimate owners.

In August, Chacon was arrested and is now facing charges, including 48 counts of second-degree motor vehicle theft, 37 counts of operating a chop shop, and 37 counts of forgery.

The case took a darker turn as investigators uncovered evidence suggesting Chacon was also involved in possessing child pornography, leading to additional charges of sexual exploitation of a child.

Sheriff Darren Weekly commended his team for their diligent work, emphasizing that Douglas County will aggressively pursue and prosecute those committing crimes within its jurisdiction, as highlighted in his statement on social media.
