Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. is commemorating its 40th anniversary of Isuzu trucks in the American market. Initially established as Isuzu Truck of America, Inc. on March 16, 1984, the company introduced its first truck, the KS22, to the U.S. in November 1984. The 87-horsepower KS22 quickly won over American customers. By 1986, Isuzu had become the top-selling low-cab-forward truck in the U.S., a title it has proudly held for 37 straight years, dominating nearly 80% of the market in this category.
Shaun Skinner, president of both Isuzu Commercial Truck of America and Isuzu Commercial Truck of Canada, attributes this remarkable success to the brand’s devoted customer base and robust dealer network. He highlighted that four dealerships have been with Isuzu for all four decades of its U.S. presence:
- Green Isuzu Truck, Greensboro, North Carolina
- Midway Isuzu Truck Center, Phoenix, Arizona
- Pierre Isuzu Trucks of Everett, Everett, Washington
- Chapman Isuzu, Tempe, Arizona
Skinner credits the company’s ongoing success to its ability to meet customer needs with a versatile product lineup, including the N-Series models powered by a 6.6-liter gasoline V8, the N-Series trucks with the 4HK1-TC turbodiesel, and the F-Series models equipped with a Cummins B6.7 diesel.
Looking forward, Isuzu is set to launch its first all-electric truck, the 2025 Class 5 NRR EV, in the U.S. and Canadian markets in the first half of 2024. This truck will feature a 19,500-pound gross vehicle weight rating, an Isuzu-developed battery electric platform, and a completely new cab design.
Skinner emphasizes that while Isuzu is celebrating its past achievements, the company is keenly focused on the future. With the introduction of the NRR EV, a redesigned cab, and new advanced driver assistance features, Isuzu is well-positioned for continued success and innovation in the commercial truck industry.
