In Truckee, California, tow truck operators are diligently working continuous 12-hour shifts to remove over 100 vehicles stranded on Interstate 80. Towing services predict that they may end up rescuing around 200 vehicles in total.

Mike Ram from North Valley Towing and his team are actively retrieving cars, having already cleared seven by early morning. Many occupants were trapped overnight or needed medical attention or shelter. Unattended vehicles are being impounded, with lots filling up rapidly.

The majority of incidents involve drivers losing control or using inappropriate tires for the conditions. Although drivers are relieved to be rescued, the cost of towing services has left some discontented.

Vacationer Stan Starr notes the severity of the storm, suggesting it’s a rare event, potentially happening once every few years.
